Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is JoAnn Comotti Hogan. I am married to Mike Hogan, and I am Mom to Bennett and Mary. We have been members of the United Church of Christ (the big white one on the hill in the center of town) for 35 years. This fall I will begin my 17th year as an art teacher in the East Hartford public school system. Prior to teaching, I was a graphic designer, and then I was home with my kids for several years. Raising children in Simsbury was a pleasure. We always had something to do. From swimming at Simsbury Farms, to a constantly changing list of events at the Simsbury Public Library and Continuing Ed, and well-organized town sports, we were on the go. Now that my kids are grown and on their own, I continue to be reminded daily as I drive through our town, shop at our local businesses, walk on the Rails to Trails, and attend evening concerts, how fortunate my family has been to live in our beautiful community.

I was born in Simsbury to Elmo and Margy Comotti. My father was also born in town and modeled a life of giving back to the community. My sister, Lynn and I attended our public schools, as did my children (go Latimer!). This fall marks my third run for a place on the Zoning Board of Appeals. I have been fortunate to serve on this board for 9 years. My goal as a member of the ZBA is to help our residents use their property as it best suits them, while being mindful of our established zoning laws and how changes will affect adjacent neighbors and the surrounding community. If I am elected, I will continue to consciously consider each resident’s application as unique in order to maintain and even enhance the quality of life for them and for their neighbors in Simsbury.

Respectfully,
JoAnn Comotti Hogan
