Hello, my name is Jennifer Batchelar and I am running for reelection as a member of the Board of Education. First, to tell you a little about me, I have a bachelors degree in finance and worked for many years in retirement investment services before moving to Simsbury in 2004. When we moved here, my husband and I decided that I would stay home to care for our children. At that time, we had one child and were focused on finding a town that valued education while still balancing real estate values. We fell in love with Simsbury.
Through the years we grew our family of three to six. Two of my children have now graduated from Simsbury High School (Classes of 2021 and 2023) and are attending college. Another just started at Simsbury High School, and the last attends Tariffville Elementary. I have spent many years as VP and President of PTOs at both the elementary and middle school levels; my background in finance informs my view of the needs of the school district and what is financially prudent for our whole town.
As the district population begins to grow again, I would love to be a part of this changing environment ensuring that our school district continues to rise and overtake today’s new challenges. I believe I offer a unique perspective; with children at all levels of education who have and still participate in many activities all around Simsbury, and my prior experience on the BOE, I have a diverse understanding of what challenges our district faces. While on the board I have been working on the curriculum committee as well as chairperson for the policy subcommittee. Over the past 4 years, I have had the privilege of learning from so many intelligent minds who are interested in continuing to improve our schools. If voted in I would love to continue these efforts. Simsbury is a great town, but there is still work to be done and I would love to be a part of the progress to ensure all of our children get the education they deserve.
Please consider voting for me on November 7.
